HayleyGuestCan you tell when how much it would cost for us to take the ferry from Spilt to Hvar (return) in August.
Also, I’ve just see on your website that there is a ferry (Jadrolinija route 96031) from Spilt to Hvar at 1130am can you confirm that this is correct.
Can we pre-book ferry tickets?
Thanks Hayley

hRvojedGuestHere are some informations to common questions about Hvar boat connection.
1. Catamaran (people only, without vehicles) Split – Hvar town takes 1h and costs around 7€. Buying tickets in high season is most likely going to frustrate you since all the tickets are sold every day and there is no possibility to book it online. If you come to Split, first thing to do when you arrive to Split, go buy tickets in ferry. There are two companies, Jadrolinija and Krilo ticket shops are ~150m one from another. In Split you can buy tickets only on the day of departure and in Hvar you can buy tickets a day before. Beware, sometimes tickets can be sold out even a day before in 7.30h in morning !!. So far, you have line Split-Hvar in 11.30h and 15.00h (Jadrolinija) and in 17.00h (Krilo), and back Hvar-Split in 6.30h(sun in 9.15h) and 13.45h (Jadrolinija) and 07.45h (Krilo). Also very rearly but possible if weather is to bad, the only option to leave island is Stari Grad ferry.
2. Ferry Split – Stari Grad takes 2h and its not bad option to reach Hvar. The bus to Hvar town goes from ferry and it takes only 20min. Its nice nature and view from the road though. Ferry costs around 6€ and bus 3€, if you choose to take taxi you might pay high rate, up to even 30€, but you get your comfort. Bus timetable is adjusted so for almost every ferry arrival there is bus waiting for you right in front of a boat. Try to hurry up to a bus or you might stay eithout a seat. For this ferry line, no need to book ticket, no worries also, there are plenty of places available, and also there are 5 lines a day.
3. Ferry Drvenik – Sućuraj is cheap option for car. Its a lot more hours of driving but its just fine if you want to save money. For a person there is no limitations, but if you are coming by car sometimes you should be prepared to wait in a line to get into ferry for even 1h-3h. If there is no line which is also possible, the route takes only 30min and its fine.
3. Catamaran Split – Bol (Brač island) – Jelsa (Hvar island) its good option also. There are good buses connections between Jelsa and Hvar and its 3x less crowded then direct line. you will just loose a lot more time. This is also cheap and nice route to visit island Brač, because from Jelsa to Bol, where you can find Zlatni Rat beach you need to pay only 5€, unlike excursions from Hvar town that costs minimum 20€.
4. Connections from Hvar to Dubrovnik, Korčula, Vis, ect… Its possible but sometimes its the best, cheapest and fastest way to go back to Split and then go to your destination. To Korčula there is daily catamaran from Hvar. To Vis, catamaran from Hvar once a week, and to Dubrovnik twice a week ferry from Stari Grad. Sometimes its not bad idea to go to Split and then take a bus to Dubrovnik.
5. One-day trip to Hvar – almost impossible. You should stay overnight because boat connections will not leave you more then 2-5h hours free in Hvar town. Anyway you should combine it with Stari Grad ferry that takes in total 2,5-3h to reach final destination Hvar town, so its like 6h total only for traveling. Catamarans that takes only 1h are earliest form split in 11.30h and latest return is in 13.45h by the same boat, so yeah Stari Grad is only option for one-day trips.
6. Split Airport – Hvar connection. Split airport is 500m from the sea which allow taxi boats to transfer you to Hvar town. There is no official line, price or a timetable but there are at least 500 boats that can transfer you. You can easily find them online and arrange it. It will cost you around 200-500€ for a private speedboat. If you are more people it might be affordable, at least enyojable and fast and ultra-easy. Otherwise you need to go by bus to Split, wait in the line for tickets, wait for ferry and so on, when you see how hot it is there, you will wish a bit refreshemnt…
7. Taxi private speedboats can also take you to Dubrovnik, Split, Vis, Zadar…wherever you want. It costs a lot though but its fun and you have your own private boat. This is comfortable and cool approach but if you want to save some money and take cheaper, smaller boat, it might not be comfortable if the sea is going to be wild, you will not be able to enjoy your trip, so my recommendation is either to take good and expensive boat or just use a public transport which is just fine. You can always contact me for speedboats recommendation. I prefer this due to flexibility, privacy, time savings, comfort and a lots of space, view, fun ect…
